It was another great year at EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, WI. If you ever have the chance to go, do it. It quite simply defies description.

It’s about a 300 yard walk from the road to the seaplane base.
The Mars was down that day after a bird strike as well as a strike of something in the water the day before.

The demo wasn’t that authentic. He did mention it, though.

Who comes up with an idea like that? The French.

The sun is setting on the Rawhides (VRC-40), and the C-2. The Navy is planning on retiring the C-2 Greyhound in favor of the V-22. This is probably a terrible idea. Nice pics. Thanks for sharing.

Awesome. All stuff I’ve seen before, but it’s hard to see it all in one place except for there. When I went as a 10-12 year old kid, my dad would just turn me loose for the day while he worked at the trade show. I have no memories of being so exhausted and dehydrated as at Oshkosh. Also: Hot Carl. LMAO, nice catch. I thought AirVenture was supposed to be a family-friendly thing!

Wow, looks like a great event. Love the p-39.
That ole yeller mustang is so wrong though.

Grr, I’m really kicking myself for not having gone these past two years.
I’ve missed so many awesome aircraft.
Great pics, Jcarr. Mad jelly.

I see a number of planes that arrived after I left. And I see the absence of a few planes that apparently left before you arrived.
Did you push the button?

Yeah, we caught the C-5 just as it was leaving. I'm actually glad that was the case as I often get to see it, but rarely get to see it take off. I didn't push the button, but a little girl behind us did.

Yeah, wasn't their best effort. The auction price for those has been steadily declining.

I like that first pic!
Really, great shots all around. Looks like you had fun. Bummer that the Mars had a rough go of it. Amazing aircraft.
You also seem to like landing gear and wheels/tires. Airliner tires are amazing things. Fun fact: the airline tire that is loaded closest to its max of all of them is the outboard main gear tire on the 737-900ER.

Thanks! I do have a bit of a fascination with gear, especially on the big birds. I could have walked around that 747 for hours.

What did the button do? I’ll admit, I would have had to push it to find out.

Does Bob Hoover get to take that Mustang home too?
I bet he’s one of the few who could handle it, even at Cars & Coffee.
While he may do an eight point roll with it, it’ll end up on the wheels.

Growing up as the son of a flight chief at Robins AFB, these pictures bring back a flood of nostalgia. Spending my summers with my dad on the flightline was among my favorite memories. Plus, I absolutely adore airshows. When I lived in Madison WI, I attempted to go to some of the airshows around WI but the timing never seemed to work out.
Of course this year the Robins Airshow this year is the same time as Petit Le Mans. :(
